Was die Teenager-Zeit für sie ausmacht erklärt Dorian Dumont: „Basically you just do what you want to do, besides homework. You’re just young and you enjoy yourself and really understand it later. And now that we understood it, we enjoy it now. If that makes sense.“

Die Franzosen schreiben und performen in englischer Sprache. Woher diese Entscheidung stammt erklärt Michael: „ It’s more the fact that we grew up listening to English speaking music. So for us it was natural to sing in English. And I think when we think about singing in French, it sounds lame to us, really. Especially with our lyrics. It never crossed our mind to sing in French.“ „We’ve never been into bands that sing in French because they all suck“, fügt Dorian hinzu.

Die Teenagers liefern verträumten Bubblegum-Pop aus Gitarren, Drumbeats und Synthies. Ihre Einflüsse sehen Sie in der Pop- und Trashkultur der 90er-Jahre. „We start with the music. We work more like if were an electronic Band. Everything we start is like on the computer like an electronic band. And the lyrics come always at the end“, sagt Dorian. Über die Themen auf ihrem Album sagt Michael: „There are just some personal experiences on a few songs on the album, but the rest is just fantasy and imagination.“

Über ihr Verhältnis zur Popmusik und die Musikindustrie im Internetzeitalter äußern sie sich so: „We’re not afraid of pop music , of using the word pop. Because for a lot of people it sounds very bad, but it’s just like popular music, which is a good thing.“ Kritiker sagen den Teenagers eine gewisse Belanglosigkeit und Oberflächlichkeit nach, was sie aber nicht weiter stört: „Bands without style never succeed anymore anyways. It’s not just about the music. It’s like the Movies. If the photograph is crap, you don’t like it“, meint Dorian und fügt hinzu: „Now, you can start in your room like to so some music and very quickly if people like it on Myspace you can be booked all around the world to DJ or to play music. That’s really great.“ Michael prognostiziert: „It’s not gonna be anymore like huge, huge acts. It’s gonna be like plenty of average sized acts. You can make an album in your room and people can listen to it from the computer.“ und Dorian stimmt zu: „ Now they can discover lots and lots of new bands. Before you had to buy records to share them with your friends.“ Auf die Frage, ob sie in dieser Entwicklung auch Nachteile sehen, meinen sie: „Everyone likes a band, but then quickly they like another band and then another band. So there’s no more hardcore fans of a band anymore. Except for maybe Emo or Tokio Hotel“.

Für die Zukunft planen sie weitrere Releases auf Merok Records. Dorian arbeitet an neuen Remixes, wollte mir aber nicht verraten, woran genau, da die Rechte noch nicht geklärt seien.
